Linton Vassell wasn’t expected to win at Bellator 234. For many, he was there to fill the main event slot against Sergei Kharitonov, as the Pride Fighting Championships veteran solidified his spot as the top contender for Ryan Bader’s heavyweight title. However, over two dominant rounds, “The Swarm” put an end to any conversation about Kharitonov facing Bader. His knockout victory ended the Russian’s six-fight winning streak and landed the biggest victory of his 11-year career.

“Yea, easily,” Vassell told Sherdog when asked if this was the most important win of his career. “Just look at his resume. He’s fought top [fighters] pretty much his whole career. So, definitely my biggest win.”

In this exclusive conversation with Sherdog, Vassell, 36, went in-depth on his surprise victory in Tel Aviv and how fast-rising Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight Jarizinho Rozenstruik played a pivotal role in his preparation.
